As so often happens, a few people react emotionally to an extent leading to government actions that only touch the surface and try to ward off the symptoms of social problems rather than the cause. Gun violence and the uptick in mass shootings is not a gun issues, it's social issue that's being glossed over.
I thought I'd share this article that's in Scientific American, which has been a long time favorite publications of mine for what's happening in the sciences, where data has been collected and studies done to get to the heart of what's going on with white american males in America. I think the author nailed it pretty well here:
He sums it up . . .
***What are the solutions? That and many other studies suggest that restricting the flow of guns and ammunition would certainly save lives. But no law can address the absence of meaning and purpose that many white men appear to feel, which they might be able to gain through social connection to people who never expected to have the economic security and social power that white men once enjoyed.
“Ridicule of working-class white people is not helpful,” says Angela Stroud. “We need to push the ‘good guys’ to have a deeper connection to other people. We need to reimagine who we are in relation to each other.”***
