A Desert Tech SRS-A1 338LM Gets Brutalized by Primal Rights

  • I'm only at the 93 grains of varget, and the only thing in my head is "WTF NO!"

    ...

  • You should get an Emmy for horror films.

    This is hard to watch.

And my phone being dumb isn't helping.

  • Well that would certainly make me feel comfortable behind one....

  • You know how I am guys...

Talk is worthless without evidence. I've been saying these rifles are tough as nails for years. I've seen proof of it. Now we've got the video proving it.

    Here's the varget case:

    The N320 case:

  • That's just crazy.

The only other thing that might have been effected would be the lugs inside the barrel extension?

Would be curious to see what those look like.

  • I don't have to use a 2x6 and my boot to get my bolt open. What am I doing wrong?

You should be using 42.0 grains of Bullseye behind those 175s, that should correct your issue.

  • Just watched the video. Great stuff as always Greg. Loved the pronghorn shot as well!

  • That's certainly impressive, I'd be more than comfortable behind one of those.

Have you heard any stories or seen anything regarding how the DT behaves in the event of barrel obstruction or catastrophic failure?

I'd be interested to see that if you have a junk barrel on hand.

  • I need a savage 338LM to test in a similar manner. ;)

  • @orkan

I would love to see that...and a Remington too.

  • Quickload estimate for what I did today.

Technically the start pressure should be higher, as the bullet was jammed severely... but still. Even at these relaxed numbers the estimate is over 125,000PSI at the chamber. Most rifles would have exploded under that strain.

I just said that on the other site without reading this here lol.

  • If you ran the same amount of pressure with powder that is appropriate for the 338LM...how fast would that 285 be traveling at the end of the barrel? Is it possible to fit that much of the appropriate powder (retumbo I guess) in a 338LM case?

I was surprised at how slow the bullet was actually traveling with the pistol powder...but I guess that is to be expected because it all burnt up in the first 8-10" of barrel.

because it all burnt up in the first 8-10" of barrel.

Actually it all burnt up before it even made it 1" into the barrel. Look at that quickload chart. Up at the top left corner of the graph you can see "all burnt" in green... and the pressure spike tapers off very quickly as a result. (pressure is red line)

With retumbo, you can put about 105gr into a 338LM case, which has it up just above the neck/shoulder junction. You'd be crunching the shit out of it upon seating any appropriate bullet.
