New build
-
So...what do you do when you win $250 certificate to TS Customs?
Build another rifle of course.
Ordered today:
Manners & JewellI still have a few more parts to order. I'll post pics when I get the parts in.
-
-
Nice! I would have gone with a re-barrel myself.
-
I'm a little irked with manners right now.
Ordered a stock and was told they'd ship it in 2 days two weeks ago.
That's all I'm waiting on at this point before I can box it up and ship it off to Travis.
Care to share the specifics of what you're having built?

Never, ever, EVER... order directly from Manners. Find it in stock at a reputable source such as bullets.com, stocky's, or euro optic. If you buy one and send it to TS Customs, he can inlet, install pillars, bed, etc. I'd rather pay Travis to inlet the right way than trust Manners to do it, as that has never worked out for me. Not even once. You should see my TF1A on my 6BR. It has so many pin holes you'd think they were making a brillo pad.

This manners was in stock at euro optic. It is not exactly what I wanted...but nothing Travis can't change. I waited 4 months for my first one from them and they quoted me 5-6 months on this one.
Build details will be up eventually.
-
I got "lucky" and found one set up for a single shot Remington 700 with a undersized barrel in the "ready to ship" section. I ordered it for that exact reason; I was going to have Travis inlet for it.
I was figuring that it would be the same as finding one at one of those places you mentioned. I just thought it would be here by now.
It just so happened that it had the flushcups and butt spacer the way I wanted too, so I filed that under extra win.
I do have them building one for another purpose, but I don't mind waiting on that one. No rush
-
First part arrived. Shout out to great Scott shooters supply. Not the first time I have ordered from him, but it is very quick shipping and good prices.
-
Parts are trickling in. Brown truck brought me a stock!
-
Where'd you find that one?
I was looking for a T4A myself and couldn't find one that would fit.
-
Euro Optic...thanks to Orkan!!! I called them first to make sure it was in stock. They had a couple different ones in stock. Ordered it on 05/11. Mailed a check to them on 05/12. Got the stock today. Not too bad. They gave me a pretty hefty discount for paying by check. It was actually cheaper than if I had bought it from manners.
-
Well good to know....
Next time.
-
-
Manners.
They had it "ready to ship."It's a single shot setup though, and will need a ton of inletting.
I'm going to edit to add that I don't know enough to know that I prefer a t4 vs a t6. Just an educated guess
-
I've never used a T6...and I am sure it is a good stock...but this will make my 3rd T4. I really like this one. The only thing that feels better on a rifle to me than a T4 is the SRS ergonomics. But take that with a grain of salt because there are a lot of stocks that I have no experience with.
-
I figure I'll have to try a couple before I find one I like. Near as I can tell the only difference between the t6 and t4 is the parallel vs angled butt.
I've got a T4 on order, being built. I figure I'll see it in a year or so based on how busy manners seems to be.
Hopefully this build can get shipped off to the gunsmith on the first.
-
Yup, that's a thing that sucks living in the boonies like I do, hard to find people with stuff to try. The T5 has always interested me. (Not to derail your thread dddoo7]
-
The main differences between the T4A and T6A is that the T4 has a butthook and a wide round forearm. The T6A has a narrower flat-sided forearm with a nice straight slanted bag rider. I really like the T6A.
-
Mags came in today. Getting closer to having everything.
-
40x repeater huh?

😃😃😃
Either that or I'm gonna have a Marlin action bedded into that manners. I haven't decided yet.
-
@dddoo7 the jewel wouldn't fit.
I figured this when you said Hmm on sniperforums.

Had to make sure it was ok before I announced exactly what it was.
-
Well enjoy it when you do get it.
-
-
Murphy Precision base arrived today. Stainless steel. 30 moa. I would have gone with 40 moa, but I can't get a zero at 50 with my current scope and a 40 moa base. It came with both 6-40 and 8-40 screws so TS customs can decide which he wants to use.
-
Box all this stuff up and send it to me when you get a chance. The sooner I have it, the sooner I can start getting things together. :)
-
Lucas bore guide arrived today.
-
Orkan sent me a few pics. This is preliminary testing with my 40x barreled action. He bolted it into an aics for testing.
It is a USMC marked action. It is a four digit serial number in the 5,XXX's. Made in 1968!!! They sure don't make guns like they used to.
Initial testing looks promising. I hope it shoots this well after it is cut and threaded...but if not Travis can put a benchmark on it.
-
Action is bedded into the stock, barrel cut and threaded, bolt knob installed. It is getting closer...and still shooting great. I think I am more excited about this build than any one in the past.
-
It'll be a fun one for sure.
-
Someone's build is coming along!
It still shoots too... even when it's windy. ;)
The custom bottom metal turned out fantastic.
Oh, and every time I show up at Travis's I hijack his lathe to polish my dies. ;)
-
Wow, shiny, I still need to do that.
-

Indeed. ... but you better comment and bow down to ddd's ridiculous 40X repeater too, or that's grounds for some kind of punishment!!!! :p
-
Haha, I've been waiting for him to get it. It looks amazing, looks like it'll shoot amazing, can't wait to see what ddd can do with it.
That the new TBAC 22 can on it?
-

Nah, that's one of my specter's. I'll be testing with his 22 takedown after the rifle's finished.
-
That bottom metal is slick. I need that on my 40X. Rifle looks awesome.
-
What do you do to polish your dies Greg? I'd like to try that on my drill press.

Nice rifle. Now I am going to be picky. I think your date of 1968 should be 1958. All of the USMC rifles I have seen have been dated 1958 or 1959. If it was just a typo error I'll butt out. Wayne
-
In comparison to other models I thought this one should be earlier than 68. Remington told me 68...but I would trust your knowledge above theirs and appreciate the knowledge. I would imagine it was a typo on their end and it should be 1958.
-
If dddoo7 hasn't experienced rifle envy yet... he's sure to after this shows up at his door. He will need to keep everyone at a distance so they don't get drool on it.
This rifle has been a collaborative effort between TS Customs, Wayne Juergens, and Primal Rights. A thing of beauty and shoots like a laser to match. 22LR, taken all the way. A rifle unlike any other, for a man I've come to call my friend.
-
That thing is a work of art.
-
Great pics!!!
Thanks for taking on the build. I can't wait to get behind it.
-
I have a dumb question...since the 40x is the same basic action as a 700...could one build a 700 into a rimfire?
-
Right on.
Mind giving us the break down?
Obviously it's a 40x action and your bottom metal. Manners stock. What about the barrel and the work done to the whole thing?
Is the TT scope on there so the pictures look cool and gonna stay or will it get swapped for a S&B or something similar for the parallax?
-

No. Completely different bolt configuration.

TT is staying where it is. Barrel is factory 40x, cut/threaded. Jewel trigger, cerakote, bedded... standard stuff.
-
Awesome, absolutely beautiful....
-
I wanted a scope that would match my DTA so it would be easier to transition between the two. This is the 3-15 version.
