Natural Treatment of Bug Bites
Before you reach for the itching cream or bug bite spray that you bought at the store, may I encourage you to try a more natural approach. Being that I live in the mosquito and biting fly capital of the world, these have been tested numerous times and have all proven to work wonderfully!
All of the below remedies are anti-inflammatory so they will stop the itching, swelling and pain. They are also anti-bacterial and anti-viral so it will stop any infection:
Tea Tree Oil
Fresh Lemon or Lime
Fresh Honey
Apple Cider VinegarThese remedies are astringents, they draw extra fluid out of the bug bite:
Tea Bag
Witch HazelGrab whatever treatment you'd like to use and generously apply to each bug bite. Within a few minutes it should relieve the itching and take the swelling down. Repeat as needed.
- Please note these will work for animals. Although a bath with some apple cider vinegar is a much better option.

This summer was fairly dry and the mosquitoes were non-existent. The last month however, we've received quite a bit of precipitation and the nasty little blood suckers have come out with vengeance. When our daughter gets bit by a mosquito she swells like a balloon. Lemon Juice and Lemon Essential Oil are the only thing that get her bites to go down. She and I swear by it! First thing we do is reach for some fresh lemon, then follow up with lemon essential oil 2-3 times/day.
This is the oil I use on her: Now Essential Oils - Lemon
