Awe

I have stood on the highest peak in the Great Smoky mountains and wondered in awe at the amazing beauty of the mountains covered in trees with leaves of all different colors.

I have stood at “Artist’s Point” in Yellowstone national park and wondered in awe at the amazing view of the waterfall as it fell hundreds of feet into the gorge below.

I have stood at “Plateau Point” in the Grand Canyon and wondered in awe at the breathtaking red rock cliffs and the 3,000 foot drop to the red river below.

I have stood at Havasupai and wondered in awe at the amazing contrast of the blue green water rolling over the red cliffs and pooling into calm, shallow pools below.

I have stood at the summit of Mount Whitney and looked down the mountain to see beautiful granite mountains highlighted with pristine mountain lakes only visible from the top of the mountain.

I have stood in the rolling hills of South Dakota with the slight smell of sage in my nose overlooking thousands of acres at once and tried without avail to comprehend all of the beauty of the land and wildlife.

Psalm 33:6-9 says, “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.”

We can look at God’s creation and wonder in awe at the beauty and majesty of this world. When we see this amazing creation, let us not forget to also stand in awe of the creator that made this world. He didn’t hire great construction crews or heavy equipment for they could not have completed the task of building this world. He didn’t toil for months or years on end to create this world. He didn’t even raise a finger to create this wonderfully amazing world. All of the beauty, wonder, and majesty of this world was created by the breath of His mouth. He spoke and it all came to be. He commanded and it stood firm.

This world in all of the beauty is only a glimpse of the majesty and power of God. When we stand in awe of His creation, let us also stand in awe of the one who spoke and made it happen. Let us fear and respect Him. Let us trust Him, have faith in Him, and follow Him knowing that there is no other power in existence that even begins to compare to Him!
