Cut to the Heart
-
Acts 2:36-38 says, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
These men that Peter was speaking to had just crucified Christ a few days earlier. Peter’s preaching finally convinces them that Jesus was the Savior prophesied about in the Old Testament. When the people realized what they had done, they asked what they should do. Peter told them to repent and be baptized for remission of sins.
This is the same path that we follow today in coming to Christ. When we know and believe that Jesus is the savior we must quit living a sinful life (repent) and we must be baptized to have our sins washed away (remission). Just like these people, if we want to be saved, this is the way. There is no other way but through obedience to His will.
