Chief of Sinners
-
1 Timothy 1:15, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
Paul states that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Paul then considers himself to be “Chief of sinners”. It was Paul who initially rejected Christ. It was Paul who gave consent as Stephen (a great Christian man) was stoned (Acts 7). It was Paul who tried to do away with Christianity. It was Paul who hauled Christians to prison and persecuted them. Yet Paul was not a lost cause. Jesus did not just throw Paul away or destroy Paul. Jesus changed Paul to be a teacher, preacher, book writer, and apostle. Jesus came to save sinners. Truth can turn the most horrible sinners into some of the best Christians and teachers if we can only find a way to get them to see the light as Jesus did for Paul.
