John 8:56-58 Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”
The Jews refused to believe that Jesus was truly from God. Jesus was born some 2000+ years after Abraham, yet here claimed that Abraham saw His day and was glad. This was very offensive to the Jews because Jesus was claiming to be God. Jesus’ response revealed without a doubt that Jesus was claiming to be God. “Before Abraham was, I am.” “I am” is not bound by time but simply expresses existence. Jesus always has existed even before He set foot on earth. Jesus is Eternal, He is God. He is the messiah, the savior.
