What if somebody rose from the dead
-
Luke 16:31 says, “But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”
In the story of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man had no concern for good or right in his life. Upon his death he was in torment for his sins. He wanted Lazarus, a righteous man to go back from the dead and warn his brothers so that they would not be in torment as well. He was told that they have Moses and the prophets. They had Gods word and the law and it should have been sufficient for them to know and do right. Yet the rich man still pled with him to send someone back. Jesus told him, if they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t listen though one rise from the dead.
There is no doubt foreshadowing in this story. We have Gods word teaching us right from wrong, yet we also have Jesus who rose from the dead. Yet even though He rose from the dead that is still not enough for some to believe. Those who don’t believe in Christ with the overwhelming evidence given will not believe regardless of what they see or hear.
