Trigger recommendations

  • What's everyone's go to R700 trigger now a days, latest thread I could find was 2 years ago and it's been 5+ years since I last bought one so any knowledge I had is pretty dated.

Ideally I would like a 2 stage, but it's not super critical.

I like to run my triggers at 2.5 lbs, or close to it, I don't like them super light since I shoot in all kinds of elements, and a lot in the winter were my fingers get numb.

It needs to be reliable, a lot of really fine sand and dust around here, and the wind blows a lot so sand dirt and dust get in everything everywhere.

  • Trigger Tech

  • I got a Timney for my 700 and no complaints. However if I had it to do over I would buy a Trigger Tech just from what I have read and heard from other guys that installed them in their rifles. Funny thing, they're mostly Remington"s. Look at the pictures and compare the two designs and their housings. The TT just looks like there are less places dust can enter if that's a worry. Got a high recommendation from the first poster also. The difference in cost isn't much, time's a wasting.

  • @orkan is the straight trigger the same length as the curved? (Will the straight trigger fit in the factory bottom metal)

And will the straight trigger provide any benefit over the curved?

  • I prefer the straight triggers in everything. Clearance is usually not a problem and can be fixed by a simple sanding op if necessary.

  • I was leaning towards the TriggerTech Special, but just had to make sure I wasn't missing anything, there's a lot of triggers out there, a lot more than the last time I bought one where the choices were Jewel, Timney, Shilen, and Rifle Basix.

TriggerTech appears to have a 2 stage set to release in 2020, but I don't like to be the first person to buy something new.

  • I like the TriggerTechs with Pro Curve shoe. Flat faced, but not vertical (Think Timney 510, just not as wide). It is quite a bit closer to the grip than their "Flat"
Pro Curve shoe is available in the Specials now for $215 - adjustable from 1-3.5lb.
I run Diamond Pro Curve in all my match rifles, and will be switching to the Special Pro Curve in all my other rifles.

  • Is the Straight vs Curved more of a personal preference? Or is there a benefit/negative to either.

I plan on getting two, one for a rifle in an HS Precision, and my Bergara in their HMR stock, both require me to "float" my hand to get proper finger position on the trigger for me.

Mostly personal preference. I prefer the pro curve because the valley in them is closer to the grip and I have to "float" less. The flat/square/smooth face on the Pro Curve gives me the tactile feedback of knowing my first finger pad is square to the trigger better than their "Curved" shoe with a ridged face does. Their "Flat" blade trigger does the same but requires me to reach further from the grip.

  • I tried to hold both as close to square to each other as I could. Looks like the flat is exaggerated forward just a touch.

  • @tscustoms thanks for the photo

Well since I'm getting two anyways I might just get one flat curve and one straight just to try out.

If I don't like the straight I can always sell it.

    Thanks for the help guys.
