Harlots Believe

Matthew 21:32 says, “For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.”

When John taught the truth of Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees did not believe. They were the religious leaders who claimed to know God, but they failed because they didn’t believe Jesus. Yet the harlots and publicans (tax collectors) believed and repented.

Who are we to judge who might believe? Sometimes it is the people who seem most religious who don’t have the faith that they should. Sometimes it is the case that people caught up in sin are more ready to believe than most. We must believe God, repent of sins, and be ready to teach the truth to any and all who might be willing to believe.
