Clean Heart
-
Psalms 51:9-13 says,
[9] “Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
[10] Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
[11] Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
[12] Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
[13] Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.”David has just sinned with Bathsheba. He was wrong yet David knows where forgiveness can be found. David turns to God admitting his sin and desiring God forgive him.
I find it especially noteworthy that David not only asks for forgiveness, but also asks for a clean heart. There is more to being right with God than Just doing the right things. We must also have a clean heart. Our mind and thoughts must be good and righteous as well as our actions. Controlling our mind is probably one of the most difficult things to do, but when we control our mind, we control our lives. As we think, so are we.
