Faith

Hebrews 3:12 says, “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.”

Israel left Egypt after God sent the 10 plagues and led them out. He parted the Red Sea, He led them. He fed them and gave them water. Then as they approached the land that He had promised He would give them God commanded them to take the land.

It was at this point, after seeing all God had done for them that they decided that even though God promised them the land and told them to take it that they didn’t trust God. They were then forced to wander 40 years in the wilderness where the adults over 20 died because of their lack of faith.

The writer of Hebrews uses the story of Israel’s lack of faith to warn us not to have the same evil heart of unbelief. Trust God. Trust that He can save. Trust that He will fulfill His promises. Trust that His word is true. Trust God instead of turning away from Him in disbelief.
