Abundant Pardon
-
Isaiah 55:7 says, “let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
There are always three steps in returning to God when we have done wrong. We must first “forsake our way” or stop doing wrong. Until we stop doing wrong there is no compassion or pardon. Yet the second step is even harder. We must also forsake “our thoughts”. We must change our mind and the way we think about sin. We must put unrighteousness out of our heart. Third, we must “return to the Lord”. We must humbly return to trusting and obeying Him. It is only then that He abundantly pardons our unrighteousness.
