Anchor of the Soul

    Hebrews 6:17-20 says, Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
    [18] That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
    [19] Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
    [20] Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchesidec”

    God has confirmed his promises to us by two things. First, it is impossible for God to lie. While this may not be much consolation among men, most of whom can and will lie, the reality is our God is truth and cannot lie.

    The second confirmation we have of the promises of God is the fact that Jesus is the forerunner. He died, was buried, and rose again the third day. He is in heaven with God. He is confirmation that God can and will raise us from the dead.

    The hope of the promises God has given us is an anchor of the soul. It keeps our soul anchored to the hope of eternal life.
