It looks like the article was from 2009 and it was on April 1st as well.

If they're like a golf ball they would do extremely weird things in flight.
Golf balls actually produce a small ammount of lift due to the dimples, that is why the trajectories ballon, and can be manipulated by putting side spin on the ball.
So if you did it to a bullet, I would think you would see some adverse effects from the bullets rotation.

I went looking for the article where guys actually did this. They took a batch of lathe turned solids and dimpled them. Couldn't find the article... :(

It would be interesting. I don't think it is fiesable due to consistency issues...but wouldn't know till tested.
