Slave to Sin

Romans 6:16-18 says, “Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.”

Christ has set us free from sin so that we may be righteous. We once were the slaves to sin and bound by the hold of sin, but we can have freedom from sin in Christ. Yet in order to have freedom from sin, we must leave sin. We must not serve sin. When we sin, we become slaves to that sin. It will hold on to us and pull us farther and farther away from God.

Are you free from sin? Is there sin in your life that controls you and is pulling you away from God? If you keep going back to the same sin time and time again even though you know it is wrong, then you are a slave to that sin. If you do not break free from that sin, then it will lead you to destruction. Change your heart. Change your mind. Change your life and follow Christ. That is the only way to break free from sin and death that inevitably follows.

  • This is a great explanation.
