New budget chassis from MDT
-
MDT came out with this new brand, Oryx, recently. Multiple inlets available, can free float a 1.25" barrel and changeable grip; looks pretty too.
A Howa barreled action and a Oryx chassis, perhaps?A complete bolt action rifle chassis system for under 400 bucks. Includes chassis, buttstock and grip.

Always great to have options that looks pretty nice.

Not a fan of that buttstock but other than that looks pretty solid, especially for a budget build

Yeah, not very bag-friendly in the rear. And the cheek pad looks really wide. But I guess I am asking for too much at that price point.
It is not as tacticool, which I suspect was MDT's goal, but I think I would try the KRG Bravo first. Especially if you are using a bag. And both are around $400.

My thoughts exactly.

@flyinphill
Yea the bravo looks more bag friendly and is considerably lighter, I been thinking about trying one out on a hunting rifle set up

I'm not a fan of the looks of this chassis either. But I can say the adjustable AR grip looks interesting. With the ability to adjust finger position on the trigger by sliding the grip for or aft.

@7david7 it's not shown on this model, but it's on the site listed as an option for the competition chassis. Sorry.

Got my hands on 1 yesterday.
The cheek rest is not very wide, I think the picture above creates an optical illusion making it look so.
I prefer a sloped Butt stock but this holds a bag pretty well. Kinda reminds me of the DT's.
Weight empty was ~4.5 lb.s.
With 20" HB Howa .223 barreled action, base, rings, Athlon Argos 6-24 BTR, 2.5" m-lok rail and Atlas bipod....~13 lbs.

To compare to the Bravo. The Bravo is stated to weigh 2.9 pounds out of the box, which I take to mean 2 pds 12 oz.
In my case, I added REM700 SA action (no mods) and No 5 Sendero barrel (as comes with SPS TAC AAC-SD rifle - no mods). And steel base and steel mk4 rings and L&S mk4 6.5-20x tmr scope and NV mount (that weighs 8.1 oz) and atlas bipod.
I just weighed this critter and it came to 12 pds 8 oz. Removing the 2 piece NV mount and moving the bipod back the the chassis, the weight would be right at 12 pounds. So still not a light gun, but the No. 5 barrel is not a light barrel. Not a heavy one either, just in between.
The gun would not go outside without a suppressor. Right now I'm supporting 4 active bolt guns and only have 3 x 30 call suppressors, and this one happens to be suppressor-less today. That would add about another 12 oz.

I don't follow the context of this post. What is an option for the competition model? And where do you find a listing of a competition model? I can;t find but one model in the web.

As far as I can gather, ORYX has but one chassis at present, I believe the reference above refers to MDT the mother of ORYX. There you will find the ACC (Adjustable Core Competition)

First day out with the Oryx chassis. Shot both prone and off bench.

@mamalukino
Come on fella you can’t do that, you can’t just say hey I shot it and not tell us anything else.

I really like it.
No zero shift from stock to chassis, excellent cheek weld, rode rear bag really well. The grip is real comfortable and the stock has a thumb shelf machined in.
Action/barrel sits perfectly centered; I added a magpul m-lok for the Atlas.
Recoil felt more linear than the stock it was in.
I shot it with 2 different mags, a .308 AICS (used like a Bob sled for single shot) and a .223 Accurate mag (AICS). These required a slight mod to fit the Howa. Not sure if required for the other footprints.
The MDT .223 mags are BO, these should fit without modification.
