Give

Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

This time of year is surrounded by the spirit of giving. While it is fun to receive gifts, the greater blessing is to give something that is truly appreciated to someone else, especially when it is a gift that someone else cannot or would not buy for themselves. While our children love opening gifts, the true blessing is found in the joy of watching their eyes light up when opening the gifts.

I am convinced that any time one gives a gift from the heart, they will always receive more back. It might come in the form of satisfaction, or It might come in the form of gifts from others, sometimes completely unrelated, or It might come in the form of blessings and opportunities providentially provided by God. Yet without a doubt the blessings we receive are always more than what we have given.

A couple of things can be seen from the verse above. The measure with which our blessings will come are proportional to the way we give. If we use a tea spoon sized portion to give, then we will receive the same measure. If we use a gallon bucket to give, then we will receive the same measure. Yet when we receive it back it will be accurate measure, pressed down (packed in), shaken (settled), and running over. A giving heart will always be blessed more than they have blessed others.
