Kindness and Severity

Romans 11:22 says, “Therefore, consider God's kindness and severity: severity toward those who have fallen but God's kindness toward you — if you remain in His kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.”
Our God is a loving God. Our God is a merciful God. Our God wants all men to be saved. Yet just as our God is a loving God, He is also a just God. Does justice contradict love? On the contrary. True and proper justice is due to love.
It does us good to consider God’s kindness. His kindness is shown in the death of His son, the beauty of this world, and the spiritual blessings that He provides. Yet we must never forget His severity either. If we fall, we will receive God’s severity in judgement. Yet that severity is there as a just reminder to remind us to continue living obedient to God.
