New caliber for military

They are hinting at a totally new cartridge but the person who wrote the article obviously doesn’t know much about guns so who knows. I can’t imagine not using a tried and tested 6.5mm, but what do I know.

The government is involved so I’m sure it’ll be stupid.

Longer supersonic velocity than the 5.56, less recoil than 5.56, more stable (whatever that means). Larger, harder hitting bullets, further accurate range, ammunition and rifles that shoot with accuracy farther than any known military rifle, in a small package to replace the m4 platform.
Sounds to me like they have figured out how to defy physics. I would really like to see this cartridge that they develop.

Firing a round is one thing. Constructing a cartridge from scratch (brass, lead, sulfur, potassium, carbon, etc.) is another. Winning government contracts is in a whole different league.

I read another article about it in "Military Times" about 1-2 months ago. Yes a 6.8xArmy cartridge. Said to be "ready to test" in about a year. They've been talking about a new cartridge for as long as I've been paying attention, though some how the MT article did make it sound like they were more in earnest this time. Yes a new M4 and a new M249. The logistics issues would be a concern as the 5.56 round and 7.62x51 rounds would still be used as well.

Found the MT article.

Yup, sounds like a load of crap to me.
