Why do tournaments do business with states like California

Watching shooting USA and they have the steel challenge on this episode.
It's based in California, why in the hell do they do this?
Im sure their are other examples of this, but steel challenge is a pretty big pistol competition in a state where you can't legally buy some of those pistols! Why give them the business and money? I don't understand it.

Agreed but then again the State Fathers would probably love it if everything firearm related just packed up and left. So maybe it's like a sharp stick in the eye that it is still there.
