Right In His Own Eyes

The book of Judges was a dark time for Israel. God had led Israel and provided for them as long as they followed Him, but they were no longer following God. Some of the Judges were righteous and godly and had led Israel the best they could, but when the nation was not willing to follow there was not much that a single judge could do.
Judges 17:6 describes the attitude of the people in that day and time. It says, "In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes."
God was supposed to be their King, yet they refused to follow Him. Therefore everyone just did whatever they perceived to be right and Israel was left in a state of chaos and ruin. There is a reason that God gave us His word today. It is not a book of suggestions, but rather His laws for us to follow. If we study and follow His will, then we will be a righteous nation. Yet when the world turns away from God and just does whatever they want to be right in their own eyes, then the chaos of our world will always follow.
