Primal Finish-- Custom Cerakote

Building a rifle is a fun project. Each and every part is carefully chosen with regard to quality, performance, and appeal. The same care and concern should go into choosing the finish for the gun. Not only does coating a rifle make the gun look nice, it also provides protection from the elements. Primal finish exclusively uses Cerakote for coating guns. Cerakote is a Polymer-Ceramic composite coating that can be applied to most metal, plastic, polymer, and wood. Cerakote will provide industry leading abrasion/wear resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance for your firearm. Cerakote comes in many different colors and can be custom mixed to get the exact look you desire.

Primal Finish takes extreme care in each and every step of coating your firearm. The firearm is first carefully disassembled and parts are cleaned and de-greased. The existing finish is then removed from the parts and they are baked in a special oven to remove any remaining oil. The parts are then sprayed using a high quality HVLP paint gun to eliminate runs and fish-eyes. Your rifle is then baked in a PID controlled oven to cure the Cerakote. Once the Cerakote is cured and cooled, the rifle is then coated with Cerakote clear coat to provide an additional layer of protection. The clear coat is a non-reflective matte finish.

There are many companies that apply Cerakote to firearms, however there are very few that provide the same attention to detail as Primal Finish. Camo is one of our specialties at Primal Finish. It is not difficult to coat a gun with an effective camo pattern. However painting a camo pattern that is both effective in real world scenarios and looks good up close requires a certain expertise. Primal Finish has the equipment to cut stencils and experience with the layout and shading in camo and therefore can provide almost any camo pattern available as well as names, symbols, or other shapes you might want on your rifle. When your rifle is used for hunting, then a quality camo is a very helpful option that will break up the unnatural shape of the gun and blend it into the surroundings.

Primal finish will put the finishing touches on your project that will make it look great, blend into nature, and protect it for years to come.

  • I don’t want to put you on the spot or anything, but are you able to coat a scope either in a solid color or camo but leave (or refill) the turret markings?

I’ve always liked the S&B scopes in FDE and wanted to do something like that to other scopes but I think the band that gets left by just masking and spraying over the whole turret looks cheap.

  • @tackyp

I am not coating scopes yet, but plan to in the future. I’ll let you know when I do.

  • The colors look nice. Good work!
