Kinetic Sculpture
-
All the parts have been cut by a CNC router he made. It needs to be sanded, stained and finish applied but he put it together for a function test.

Very cool. Is it self powered or does it require a power source?
-
@orkan Self powered. It uses a clock mainspring and once it is finished it should run about 45 minutes per wind. My son bought the plans from the engineer. The engineer has a friend in Hawaii who makes the first example.

That almost made me dizzy. I don't believe I have ever seen anything like this, seen some clock works that look quite complicated. I will have to ask my brother in law if he is familiar with kinetic sculpture, he does metal sculpture in his studio in New Jersey and utilizes lathes and milling machines in his work but nothing CNC. This art form done with wood must take a lot of patience. Very cool.

Here’s a couple more of Thomas’ clocks. The mantle clock is with his MIL in Germany. The stained clock is at his grandmothers ranch house. It is powered by a falling weight and regulated by a 3 foot pendulum.
