New Primal Rights DT load work
-
Been working on some Load development on my new DT Greg put together for me. I’m just over 100 rounds in and have got my powder load pretty well nailed down.
This thing is a hammer! Next rounds will be sailing in searing depth.DT SRS A1

Lookin good! :)
-
Should have bought this 2 years ago when I contacted you the first time! Thanks again for all the help and great advise.
-
7LRM?
Unless I missed it
-
@tackyp Sorry, yes 7LRM, Greg told me the recoil was not bad and he was correct. First 50 rounds were shot prone off a bipod and could control the recoil much better than off the bench, but all in all it’s really not bad at all being able to stay on target for follow up shots.
I know I don’t have the single didget ES’s that some of you have but I’m am try to keep it below 20.
Any one with any suggestions I would love to hear.
I’m using
RCBS charge master in conjunction with a vibratory trickler
Forester Coax
Hornady dies (which I loathe) - Whidden non bushing on order
AMP Annealer
Sinclair Priming Tool - with Fed 215
I am really trying not to have to neck turn my brass though I have the brass sorted by weight.
-
@painless
Nice rifle! Is the mount for the chronograph readily available? Where can they be found?
-
I got the magnetospeed mount from MK Machining. Once you get it adjusted correctly it works like a dream! I have mine set where it sits just off the suppressor so there is no interference with load development.
-
@painless That's great, thank you.

Someone needs a CPS. ;)
I was reading through his list of tools and thought the same thing. That and the dies, but he has new dies on order.
I'm not a master reloader, but I can put together loads with single digit SD's. I'm positive the CPS, dies, and other advise I've learned on here is why.

I am really trying not to have to neck turn my brass though I have the brass sorted by weightI don’t have know about the 7LRM but I uniformed flash holes and primer pockets on my 300mag brass and that helped. I might also investigate Aztec mode for the AMP and see about the sort function. That could help some I suppose. I intend to try it shortly
Are you making 2900 with the 195 EOL? What twist and chamber setup are you running? That’s pretty good from a short barrel. When I rebarrel this 300 I intend to investigate 7LRM as a replacement.
-
I do uniform my primer pockets, never tried the flash holes. I am planning on downloading the Aztec program once I run through all my new brass. The barrel has 1-8 Twist and so far I have only been working on the 180 Berger Hybrids. I do have 300 rounds of 195 EOL's but have not started on them yet. I actually heard some bad reviews on them. Any one else had any experience with them?
I am hoping this barrel will speed up a little bit once fully broken in. All rounds fired suppressed so far, once I'm comfortable with my load then I'll pull the can and see how it performs unsuppressed as I will be hunting in Canada as well as the US and will need the option of running without the can.
Thanks for everyones advice so far. Please keep it coming! Ive only been reloading for about 3 years and still perfecting all my techniques.
-
@orkan I have been looking hard at your CPS. What kind of difference to you feel it makes one something like the Sinclair priming tool?

I run 195's in my 7NMI. Ridiculous accuracy/precision... and only one big game animal taken so far. It was bang/flop. If there's something wrong with the 195's, my batch must be immune.

There's no comparison.

Is there an optimum depth to seat primers to eliminate SD?
Thus far my practice has been to seat with 1-.1.5 thousands of anvil compression. I’ve wanted to do a test where I seat primers in progressively deeper increments to see what the effects are on SD and ES but I haven’t been able to eliminate enough SD and ES elsewhere to make it valid.

I haven't completed testing adequate to determine this with any certainty.
It seems to vary a bit depending on what primers being used and which cartridges. I like about 5 thousandths of compression on the anvil prongs.
Making sure each case is primed exactly the same, with at least some contact on the anvil, seems to be the most important factor.
-
I had no idea it would make that kind of difference. I have read that as long as you bottom out the primer in the case it would be sufficient.
Does your CPS have to be attached to your bench to work properly?
-
My interest has been piqued.
I’m gonna dig out my old RCBS bench priming tool tonight and see what happens. It’s way faster than hand priming or on the COAX
-
How were the 195 EOL,s to load for? Are they like the hunting VLD,s? I loaded them in my 300 WM and they were also very accurate but were very sensitive to seating depth.

I'm sure you could clamp it in place temporarily... but yes, it needs to be rigidly mounted to something.
@painless said in New Primal Rights DT load work:

Didn't seem very difficult for me. Set them up 10 thousandths off and proceeded to shoot a tiny little bug hole.
-
I did a little thinking/googling/math. Can a 195 be shot fast enough from a 7LRM to beat the 180’s?
-
I have my CPS mounted to a plate that bolts to the bench when I need to use it.
@orkan uses a factory made option that works very similar to what I use...but I can’t remember what it is called.
-
@dddoo7 Inline Fabrication.
-
I will come up with something for the CPS. I had a fabricator make this mount for my Coax when I built my bench. It put the level and angle exactly where I wanted it plus its extremely heavy duty so there is no flex.
