    Daily Reading: Joshua 5

The children of Israel are near Jericho and are preparing to take the city. The majority of this chapter includes the details of circumcising the people. Circumcision is something that God had commanded under the Old Testament law, yet they had not done it as they should have while wandering in the wilderness. So God told them to do so at this time.

Why did God command circumcision? What was the purpose? Was it medical? Was it ritual? I am not sure...but I do know that God commanded it.

Circumcision is a command that is not given under the New Testament law that we are under. Yet there are sometimes New Testament laws that we don’t fully understand. The thing is, we don’t have to fully understand why, we just need to be willing to obey God. Obedience removes reproach.

Joshua 5:9 “Then the LORD said to Joshua, “This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day.”
