.264 SMK 142gr for Deer

I remember asking Greg if .308 175gr SMKs are good for deer and he said yes. Does that hold true for 6.5mm or .264, 142gr SMK?

I'd like to try a 300 yd shot with my 6.5CM this year in PA if I can. Not a big fan of tracking deer so I go for high shoulder shots.
