Pretense or Obedience?

    Daily reading: Romans 2

Paul in this chapter deals quite a bit with the hypocritical Jews. While most today are not involved in Judaism, many Christians struggle with being hypocritical. Judgement day is coming and in that day the one that is obedient to God will be rewarded and the one who disobeys will be punished (Romans 2:5-11).

Many in that day would teach one thing and do another (Romans 2:22). Their religion had become simply an outward showing to everyone else of how religious they were. Paul even gets so blunt as to tell them that their outward circumcision was just for show and did not justify them. God looks for circumcision of the heart. He looks for us to cut off the sin and wickedness in our hearts so that our actions will be obedient as well (Romans 2:28-29).

    Theme verse in the chapter:
Romans 2:13 “for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;”

  • I particularly like romans 2:7. ;)
