Abased or Abound

Philippians 4:12 says, “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.”
We don’t always know what life is going to carry for us. We don’t know if we will go through difficult times or times of plenty. Most people go through both times of plenty and times when it is hard to make ends meet in their lives.
If anyone knew the meaning of doing without it would be Paul. Yet Paul chose to be happy regardless of the situations he faced. Paul trusted in God and knew that his home was in heaven, therefore he could deal with whatever life threw at him.
When we trust God and realize that this life is temporary, then we can be happy even through difficult times knowing that God will ultimately provide us an eternal home that will far outweigh anything we could ever know in this life.
