Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Christ in his teaching here deals with the concept of serving two masters. The masters He is specifically talking about are God and mammon or riches. While it is not wrong to have money and to be rich, it is wrong to make money our master. When one allows money to determine how they act and to shape their character then they have made money their master. When money can make one do something that they know to be wrong, then money has become their master. When money is what is most important, then money is their master. To most of the world, money is their master, however it is not possible to serve God and money.
