Why read old laws?
-
Romans 15:4 says, “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”
As Christians we are no longer under the Old Testament. However, that does not mean that the Old Testament is useless. The Old Testament is there for our learning and teaches us many things that carry over and still apply today. It teaches us about God, who He is, what He does for His people, and what He demands.
The Old Testament teaches us the benefits of endurance (patience) and the necessity of remaining faithful to God.
The Old Testament tells us of the coming of the Savior, His life, His suffering, and His death.
The Old Testament tells us of the coming of the Kingdom. It describes the king, the people, and the purpose of the Kingdom.
So while we are no longer living under the laws of the Old Testament, there is still much wisdom and benefit to be gained by studying the tests. It is there to give us hope!
