clean on outside, dirty inside
-
Matthew 23:25-26 says, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. [26] “Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.”The Pharisees and many religious people today are more worried about what people see than their heart. Many people look religious and carry the perception of being “righteous”, yet the perception to the world is as far as their religion goes. Jesus here describes how we must first cleanse the inside (our heart) and then the outward actions will naturally follow. Yet if our heart is not right then any pretense of righteousness is useless. Let us fight to keep our heart right with God and worry less about what everyone else sees in us.
