Terrapin X
-
I'll be watching this closely!
-
Looks interesting. Any idea of price point?
-
@orkan
What are you currently running? If these are as good as the original terrapins then they will be a hit if priced fairly
-
according to the data sheet they added a electronic reticle. If they have done away with the etched glass reticle I see that as being a negative. All the electronic reticles ive ever used have been to big for ranging targets at extended ranges and too bright for ranging in low light conditions but maybe they have sorted that out. Other than that I love the other features they added, Bluetooth, magnetic compass, etc.
-
@bull81 I use a terrapin.
-
That blue tooth feature is awesome. Its simply amazing where all these technologies came from and are merging together into tools.
-
Would be nice if this thing did environmentals like one of the Sig Kilo units I looked at. Seems like a logical progression. IMO That would be nice. One less battery to worry about and one less item in the drag bag.
-
I'd rather have a range finder that actually did the job of range finding. I'm OK with shouldering the responsibility of making sure my kit is redundant and works properly. The "all inclusive" units rarely do anything as well as is required.
-
Anyone hear updates? Going to be released at the end of may?
-
Euro Optics is taking emails of people who have interest. Showing a price of 1799.00
-
The electronic reticle is a major let down.

sweet youtube video though......

I have a Leica 1600b and I am looking to upgrade my rangefinder, anyone recommend the Terrapin x or something else?
-
@alfmoonspace On the budget end of the spectrum, the new vortex 4000 HD seems to be getting very good reviews.
-
@alfmoonspace I've played with the Nikon Black RangeX 4K handheld units and they are actually quite impressive. Outranges my Leica 1600 and older Leica Geovid HD's. Actually very close in ranging ability to my Swaro EL binos. A lot of people have really good luck with the different Sig Kilo rangefinders as well.
I would be very interested to play with the new RF bino offerings from Vortex, Sig, and Nikon. Obviously glass wont compete with Zeiss or Swaro, but they might be quite a value for the average shooter/hunter.
-
I will look those up. Outside the budget end, would you guys recommend the Terrapin or something else?
-
@alfmoonspace
I have a original terrapin and love it! A friend of mine has the X and I’ve been very impressed with it as well. The original will range a touch further but at those ranges for me it’s meaningless, I like the etched reticle in the original better too. That being said when my original dies I will be buying an X to replace it. If the X is in your budget I think you will be perfectly happy with it
-
@bull81 I so much hate that they went electronic reticle in these new models.
When my original terapin dies, I'll end up with a high end vectronix, like a vector or maybe a 25C.
-
@orkan I do too it was a huge disappointment when I heard they got Ava from the etched reticle. Although not as good as the original etched reticle the electronic reticle is very good and precise compared to most. I didn’t use it in low light conditions though so that maybe a different story
