Philippians 2:12 says, “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”

Salvation from sin is a gift of God that we receive through grace. It is not something that we could ever earn (Eph 2:8). Yet grace does not mean that we do not have responsibilities in receiving that grace. Paul here describes obedience which also is necessary to receive grace and he tells them to “work out their salvation”. Salvation requires diligence in knowing and doing. Salvation requires that we seek out and find that grace. We could never earn it as none of us are perfect...yet the gift of salvation still requires work.

Many people want to continue living their lives in complete disobedience to God and still hope that His grace will save them. That is not how grace works. Grace and salvation is something that we are to seek out and work for and only then does God give us that which we cannot attain on our own.
