Our best and brightest, with the most impressive resumes and degrees, not the “decadent, lazy, spoiled, whatever” of Middle America ran up $20 trillion in national debt. Our best failed over a decade to achieve 3 percent economic growth. The supposedly smartest warped the health care system. The brightest could not translate overseas interventions into a strategic or cost-to-benefit advantage. The anointed eroded the border. The most knowledgeable gave us state nullification of federal law. The purportedly most ethical weaponized the IRS, the FISA courts, the DOJ, and the FBI, undermined the idea of free-speech in the university, and politicized everything from the eroding NFL to the increasingly irrelevant Oscars.

You forgot that our self proclaimed best and brightest also created the “decadent, lazy, spoiled, whatever” with their socialist policies that were enacted first to curry political favor among the poor and continuously expanded to create a large voting block totally dependent on the government for their basic needs. They (Wilson, specifically) also wrecked our currency, unconstitutionally selling the right to create currency to a foreign-owned cabal whose stated aim was to create a steadily inflating supply of fiat currency which would allow them to incrementally steal the wealth of the nation. The Federal Reserve Bank is not Federal, has no Reserve and isn't a Bank. By an Unconstitutional Act of Congress it is outside the purview of Congress and not subject to Congressional Authority. Congress cannot even set rules for its operation. Johnson, the cynical bastard, ruined the American family with his welfare package in a move purely calculated to ensure the Democrat Party loyalty of 13% of potential voters. If I were to cite one person as the most harmful influence in human history it would be Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel who was the intellectual muse of both Wilson and Marx (who was Lenin's inspiration). His idealism has caused more death and destruction than any other bad idea ever to spring from the mind of all the tyrants who ever lived.

I'm sure my reputation on this site will take a hit on this, but that's NOT TRUE.
Respectfully, my question is, how many times have those who vent take the time to call or email their elected officials?I have no disagreement with much of the criticism of our government policies. If we do not hit the email and phone lines of our elected officials, all we are doing is preaching to the choir. If we don't participate, we are part of the problem.

I came across a statistic some years ago from a political statistician that indicated that for each individual that contacts an elected official there are approximately 200 others that me feel the same way regarding an issue. This notion emboldened me to contact my elected officials and encourage my acquaintances to do the same on issues they felt strongly about such as the 2nd Amendment, Immigration and Net Neutrality. As I've heard and agree with, if we loose the first of those three, the rest of our rights will not be far behind. We lost the last of those three courtesy of a recent FCC ruling. I've been banging away at my congressmen and senators on all three of these issues and others for some time now.
Until we get term limits, the least we can do is threaten our politician's job security if they come down on the wrong side of important issues. We all need to remember the politicians that stick it to us when we are in the voting booth! I think sometimes our memory is way too short when it comes to our politician's actions in Washington, DC.

Every single elected official I've ever met, did not care in the slightest what their constituents thought about an issue they were already polarized on.
They can be forced to change their mind, but it usually involves blackmail of some type. Three hundred million people could call nancy pelosi and demand she stop her war against gun owners, and it would not change one fucking thing in her mind.

If people liked hearing the truth then churches would be full every Sunday. If people liked hearing truth then they would read their Bibles on a daily basis. If people liked hearing the truth, then Christ would not have been crucified, prophets would not have been persecuted and killed, and apostles would have had a peaceful life. If people liked hearing the truth then they would demand Godly leaders for their country that would tell them the truth.
However people as a whole do not like truth. They like an illusion of truth and deceive themselves into believing that their illusion is truth. The whole time they fail to realize that their compromises have led to to following Satan under the pretense of following truth.
This illusion of truth that people desire is so strong that most will do horrible and ungodly things to protect their illusion. They will start by getting other people to agree with their illusion and support it. Then they will produce false evidence to support their illusion of truth. Then they will all as one group attack anyone who questions their illusion. Their attacks won’t even deal with real truth, but rather will attack the truth bearers character. If their verbal attacks don’t work, they will quickly resort to any means necessary to protect their illusion of truth including mobs, violence, and finally murder. They will use each of these things many times within the bounds of “the law” and there will be no immediate punishment or retribution.
People will help them protect their illusion of truth even if they don’t buy into it. People will defend them, support them, and stand by and watch as actual truth is stomped into the ground. All this happens not because they believe the false illusion of the other...but because they have their own false illusions that they are afraid will be torn down if they don’t stop truth when they can.
Don’t believe me...read Matthew 26 and 27 about the crucifixion of Christ and then look for those ungodly actions in today’s world of people trying to stamp out truth in order to protect their illusion of truth.

The reason for this is simple. People's outward appearance is largely a construct. Any information which contradicts their pre-perceived notions is viewed as an attack. It matters not if you can prove the information is correct. They aren't interested in proof or truth if it contradicts them.

I can't address the politicians that you met, but I can tell you that from my experience you can count on most politicians looking at polls unless they are in a district that has been rigged by Jerry mandering (not sure of spelling) where districts are redrawn to favor a particular political party.
I'm not going to name drop but politicians generally do what it takes to get re-elected by their base. Earlier in my professional career I went to some fund raisers and I can tell the nature of the conversations at those events were quite different than those at the town hall meetings.
There are instances where politicians have backed off Republican or Democratic cornerstone issues because of push back from constituents especially when elections near. They get heat from the party when they do, but they do it to stay in office.

You can't get 80% of polled Americans to agree on the color of the fucking sky, yet there is that kind of turnout on this issue. ... and the government is full speed ahead doing it anyway. How is it even open for discussion?
Since you have such a solid grasp on the mindset of the American politician, surely you can lay this out for me.

THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHY WE SHOULD NOT HAVE APPOINTEES MAKING THESE KINDS OF DECISIONS. The FCC group is populated by APPOINTEES. The vote on this matter was 3-2 and it failed because of Trump's appointees to the FCC. The Chairman of the FCC, Ajit Pai (A TRUMP APPOINTEE) said that there our fears were unfounded and exaggerated. THIS IS PART OF TRUMPS REMOVAL OF REGULATIONS HOLDING BUSINESS BACK.
THIS IS A FREEDOM OF SPEECH ISSUE PEOPLE. It's bad enough that search engines use their self-serving algorithms to populate the results of your internet searches, but when Internet Service providers are able to do it, we're screwed.
The internet will become subject to the same biases as the news media we all know. What's more is that now from what I understand about the Obama Executive order being overruled by the FCC decision, the door is open for internet service providers to charge different rates based on your internet usage, IE streaming VOIP etc.
I've been banging the email and phone lines of Florida senators and congressmen on this issue and STRONGLY RECOMMEND ALL OF YOU TO DO THE SAME in your state. Ask your elected officials what they are doing regarding this ruling that went through despite the fact that 80% of the population was against it!!! THE ONLY WAY TO REVERSE THIS IS TO GET A LAW THROUGH CONGRESS AND THE SENATE. LET THEM KNOW THAT THEIR ACTION OR INACTION ON THIS ISSUE WILL GUIDE YOUR VOTE IN THEIR NEXT ELECTION CYCLE!
Getting rid of regulations is most often code for getting ride of consumer protections that were put in place due to egregious abuses of the public. We didn't learn from the long term effect of the Reagan years, not likely we'll learn from the Trump efforts in this regard.
When Clinton eased the regulations regarding home lending standards in 1999 we got the mortgage crisis in 2008.
When Oil companies got a free hand to use fracking technology without safeguards to the environment that we all love and enjoy, we got whole communities of people who were no longer able to drink their water out of their wells in rural areas. Animals died when they drank from streams near fracking sites because the regulators couldn't press the oil companies to tell what chemicals they were putting in the ground because it was a trade secret.
I'm a Card Carrying Republican but I really do fear for all of us if Trump wipes away all regulations and gives big business a free reign to do whatever they want.

Religion can get dicey when it comes to the truth. Being baptized Catholic but never practiced, I just felt it best to be honest and help/treat people fairly. Not too long ago it was the single most shameful religion. But that is not for this forum.
I think that some have gone into the political arena with all the best intentions and desires to help the real needs of the people but get quickly ganged up on and behind closed doors get grilled and beat down into changing their ways to how it is really done (all bent and full of lies).
Show the majority the money and they will turn. How else are all these people elected with just $100k salaries end up worth millions and live in huge homes most with more then one.

Religion in general can get dicey. Religion in general however is not about truth, but rather preceived truth. Christ after all was crucified in the name of religion (Jewish). Truth is not easy to find in the religious world...or any area of discussion...yet that does not change the fact that truth can be known....and that It is generally hated.
