Philippians 4:11, says, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”
Paul went through many struggles in life. He spent time in prison, shipwrecked, he was beaten, but other times he was well taken care of by the saints. Sometimes life deals us unwanted troubles. There will be times in life when we have more than we need and times when we struggle to make ends meet. Paul noted that in whatever situation he was in he was content. That does not necessarily mean content as I’m satisfied living in poverty, but rather content with what he is able to do and have. He was content with his place in life.
Many times people look forward in life and want what is to come. The single person wants nothing more than to be married. Married couples want nothing more than to have kids. Parents want nothing more than to retire. Yet then people who are retired and at the end of life want nothing more but to do it all over again. We need to learn to be content with where we are realizing that there is likely a time that we will look back and wish to be here again.
