    Hi again folks.

    This time I’m looking for advice on competition slings. Again, the style of the match is PRS/practical tactical.

    I’m not sure what the course of fire is, but seeing as how it’s framed as a “sniper challenge” I suspect I’ll need to sling in and shoot.

    Also, hopefully this is the first of many so I’ll probably need a sling for something in the future.

    What’s the word on slings these days? Is the arm loop actually useful or is a traditional sling as workable?

    I’ve looked through the annals of the internet for this one but wanted to get some insight here before I ordered anything.

    I’m thinking TAB PRS or something like that.

    Also any thoughts on those barricade pads that attach to your stock?

    I use a rifles only bungee sling and like it a lot. With that said I’ve only used it and a TAB so my experience is limited. As for the barricade bag, I use the short action precision SAP bag, it works pretty good as a barricade bag and doubles as a rear bag very well. The game changer bag is extremely versatile just weights are fair amount more. Both can be used as rear bags very effectively in either situation. I’d give the edge to the game changer for barricade use but the short action precision bag is easier to deal with moving from position to position due to its extreme light weight.

    Forgot to mention, the arm cuff/loop is very effective but I find it’s too time consuming during competition. I use the sling without the loop on barricades a good bit depending on their height. The rifles only bungee slings works great either way

  • I like both the Rifles Only bungee sling and Armageddon Gear bungee sling if I have to use a sling.
    But honestly, I can't remember the last time I used a sling in a PRS match for anything other than carrying my rifle between stages. I almost always pop my sling off for shooting the stage so it's out of my way. I have tethers on most of my bags with QD swivels so I can snap them in a flush cup on my stock if there's movement during the stage and I don't want to leave a bag behind.

    A tradition sling is workable but an arm loop significantly increases stability. If you’re shooting unsupoorted then an arm loop will help you be more stable. I use the short action Precision positional sling. It is quick to sling up and very quick to unsling.

    I don’t have a barricade pad but I did stick a piece neoprene to the forend of my rifle. It adds a little cushion and friction to the forend. I find it better on barricades than the slick hard plastic It covers.

    I should have figured this would mostly be a case of preference, but there seems to be a lot of love for the bungee slings

    I'll order up a bungee style and see what happens.

    Several of the different bags come that way, the short action precision bags do too
