Bullets From The Bible 1-28-18

George Bernard Shaw was one of the most world renowned free thinkers and liberal philosophers. George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright who lived from 1856–1950. He was also an avid atheist. In some of his last writings he wrote, “The science to which I pinned my faith is bankrupt. It’s counsels, which should have established the millennium, led, instead, directly to the suicide of Europe. I believed them once. In their name I helped to destroy the faith of millions of worshippers in the temples of a thousand creed. And now they look at me and witness the great tragedy of an atheist who has lost his faith”
There are very few people who discuss God more that those who insist that there is no God. It is also amazing how that many atheists, when they are laying on their death bed they suddenly wonder if there might be a God. It is easy to comfort oneself into believing that there is no God when one feels like they have plenty of time left to live. Yet when one is facing the realization that life is at its end it suddenly becomes easier to believe in a God.
When we consider the reasons to believe in God one of the greatest convincing factors is this world that we live in. The amazing complexity and beauty of this world demands that there must have been a creator. If there is design to any given item...then there must have been a designer. Romans 1:20 says, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”
While our world and the science contained therein should be sufficient to convince man of a God, it is not the only evidence that He has given. Have you ever wondered where morals came from? Have you ever wondered why morals are something that man has...yet animals are lacking? Why is it that an animal isn’t concerned with right and wrong…yet by and far man demands some form of morals. Even most ungodly politicians and criminals have a standard of morals for which they follow. Was Hitler wrong for killing the Jews? Is a man wrong for molesting children? Is it wrong to steal from someone else? Have you ever stopped to ponder where morals come from? They are obviously somewhat steered by society...yet that cannot completely be true or animals would develop morals as well. The reality is that morals are instilled into man by God. God has taught morality and demanded morality from man. If God does not exist...then right or wrong does not matter or exist either. If God does not exist then the only right or wrong is what I decide for myself is right or wrong. Yet if I admit that there are things that are wrong (Hitler/Jews), then I must also admit that there is a higher being that determines morality.
I can fool myself all I want into believing that there is no God. I can even convince others that there is no God. Yet the evidence that God has given us for His existence is hard to argue with. And it will be even harder to argue with when I am nearing the end of life and facing the realization that I will soon be meeting Him!
