Philippians 2:5-8 says, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

We are to have the mind of Christ. These verses start out reminding us of that and then they tell us how we have the mind of Christ. Christ made himself of no reputation. He didn’t go around trying to make a name for himself, but rather His goal was to simply speak the truth. Jesus was not what we would call famous in His life but rather He was far and wide despised and hated.

Jesus also took the form of a servant. Christ is priest and king yet He chose to serve man. Christ is Lord of all and creator yet He chose to come to Earth to save His creation.

Jesus humbled himself. He lowered Himself from His position in heaven to being human. He humbled himself from living in the perfect heaven to living in a wicked and twisted world all so that He could save us.

Jesus was obedient to the will of God. I cannot imagine facing the pain that Jesus endured while on the cross. I cannot imagine knowing I was going to endure that and still being willing to...yet that sacrifice was necessary. Jesus was obedient to the will of God even through death.

We are to have the same mind as Christ. Not looking to make a name for ourselves. Serving others. Humbling ourselves. Being obedient to God. Christ has set a very high bar for us and given us the perfect example to follow.
