1 Peter 2:1-2 says, “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.”

It seems that most in our world are filled with malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and evil speaking. This very accurately describes most if not all politicians. This also describes most business models as well, and sadly enough it describes many religious groups. It is very rare to find someone who has truly “laid aside” these things...however that is exactly what the young Christians were commanded to do. These weren’t commands for mature, seasoned Christians, but rather these commands were what they were to begin with.

It is no wonder that Christians are described as a light in the world. When a Christians lays these things aside it will make them different than the rest of the world and make them stand out as a light. Then once the unrighteous things are laid aside we are to desire the word so that we may grow. It is only through the word of God that we will grow spiritually and become stronger. His word is necessary in order to become mature Christians...yet that will never happen until we are willing to lay aside the unrighteous things. We cannot act like the world and be right with God. It is not possible.
