Proverbs 29:15 says, “The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

Discipline is one of the most difficult things I have ever done. It is difficult to be consistent, loving, and yet firm enough to get the message through. The easiest thing to do is to ignore the wrong actions of the child and let them get by with whatever they want...however in the long run this will bring shame on the parents and leave the child without wisdom. If we want our children to grow up in wisdom then is requires rebuke and discipline. Teach them. Love them. Discipline them. Show them the right way. Expect them to follow.

Heck yes! I also try to be softer than daddy in my approach and it's so hard to find the balance. It's also hard not to let anger lead the way. I'm thankful that I have pretty dang good kiddos who, as they've gotten older, require less and less discipline. Seems that I can get through most days these days without having to step in to discipline.

  • I agree completely. It is my goal to discipline my children young so that as they grow up they will learn to govern themselves.

I believe God made women as the "softer" disciplinarians. It really takes both the gentleness of a mother and the sternness of a father to raise children properly.
