Bullets From The Bible 12-30-17

Paul had just encouraged Timothy regarding setting the proper example for others. He gave Timothy six things in which he was to be an example in and we looked at those yesterday. In the very next verse he tells Timothy three things he needs to pay attention to. Notice what it says:1 Timothy 4:13 says, “Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.”
- Reading. Reading is referring to reading the word of God. God’s word provides us with all we need to know about spiritual things. It gives us examples and stories to read and know. When we fail to read His word we fail to read the very book that teaches us how to follow God and get to heaven.
- Exhortation. Exhortation is showing encouragement to others. There are times when just a simple word will show people we care. There are times when what we say can lead someone back to the right and away from sin. Let us always look for opportunities to encourage others as it may very well be our encouragement that saves a soul.
- Doctrine. Doctrine is the teachings of Christ and apostles. Much of the New Testament is comprised of the teachings of Christ. These doctrines are given to us for a reason and He expects us to know and follow them. These doctrines are the commands of Christ regarding right and wrong. We are to pay attention to them closely.
Reading, exhortation, and doctrine. These are three things that we should strive to have in our lives.
