Hebrews 4:2 says, “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”The word of God is a great and mighty thing. The word contains the power of God to salvation. The word has the power to change is and mold us into what God wants us to be. Yet the word is powerless if we will not receive it in faith.
So many times the word is rendered useless simply because one won’t read it at all. Yet that is not always the case. Other times the word is rendered useless because one who reads the word refuses to have faith in that word.
Yet Faith is more than just believing. Faith is trusting God’s word to the point that we will obey it. Faith is putting our full trust in that which God has delivered to us.
God’s word sometimes drops “bombshells” on us. There are times when we might read something that we have never read or heard before. There are times when reading that we will come to the conclusion that we must change or be wrong. We then make the decision: do I trust the word, or do I continue on about my life living wrong?
Read the word. Study the word. Know the word. But most of all...have faith in the word and follow it!
