Matthew 16:24 says, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”

Following Jesus is necessary to get to heaven, Yet following Jesus is not as easy as many think it is. Following Jesus requires that we deny ourselves. We must realize that Jesus and his kingdom are more important than our own wishes and desires. We must be willing to sacrifice of ourselves to be right with Him.

Following Jesus requires that we take up his cross. There is a cross to bear for everyone who stands for that which is right. There will be pain, suffering, and difficulties to the one who follows Jesus and anyone who decides to follow Him must realize that there are going to be tough times to face as a result of doing right.

Following Jesus requires that we follow Him. I know it sounds obvious, yet so many people claiming to be Christians still don’t live like Jesus. Following Jesus means we love like He loves, we teach what He taught, we serve like He served. Following Jesus means we study His life and strive to live like Him in every way.

Deny self, take up cross, follow Christ!
