2 Peter 2:1-2 says, "But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. [2] And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.”

Peter in this passage warns the Christians about false prophets. He warns them that false teachers are coming and even tells them how they will come. False teachers usually come from “among you”. Peter is telling them that the false teachers will come from among Christians and will try to bring in destructive heresies. Yet these heresies will not be revealed blatantly, but rather the false teachers will try to introduce them secretly. Usually when a teacher introduces a lie...he will begin to do so with the less experienced students. After many of them buy into his false teaching he will then spread it to some of the more learned students. By the time the knowledgeable people know what is going on, a great number of people believe the new false teaching. They bring it in secretly because it would not be tolerated if brought in publically.

False teaching is destructive. It brings ultimate destruction on the teacher AND on the one who believes and follows the false teaching. One of the saddest results of false teaching is that many people will reject religion all together because they can’t decide what is true and what is not. False teaching is destructive because many will follow their ways. False teachers sound good. They are easy to listen to. They appear to be truthful. Yet the end of following them is destruction. False teachers even get to the point, as the verse says, that they will blaspheme truth if it will further their false teaching.

Truth can be found (John 8:32). Yet we must be willing to study the Bible and know what it says. We must be able to recognize false teaching when we hear it and stay away from it.

This can be applied to a great many things. Truth is truth. Lies are lies. How many lies born of ignorance exist on other forums?

How many stars are there in the sky?

Seek truth in all things. Compromise it never.

Absolutely. Buy the truth. Sell it not.
