.224 Valkyrie Will Get a 100gr Bullet
-
Ammunition maker Federal Premium recently released its full bundle of press info on their new .224 Valkyrie round, coming on the heels of teasers released at Big 3 East. The .224 Valkyrie is a high performance .22 caliber round for the AR-15, which uses heavy, low drag bullets to dramatically improve the long range performance of the platform versus the .223 Remington and other rounds. This is the same principle that has been used in rounds like the .260 Remington and 6.5 Grendel for years, now finally applied to a factory .22 caliber round.
Not sure how many of you have seen the valkyrie yet, but it seems to be a pretty interesting AR round.

I kind of want to take my barrel off my 20" .223 AR and put a Valkyrie barrel on it. It sure would be fun.

@norcal_in_az You'll need a 6.8SPC BCG as well.

I’m real interested in it, but who’s gonna make brass for it?

I just can’t bring myself to like my ar’s right now. Bolt guns are just too fun. I have ar’s...and even a couple that were pricey...but they haven’t been shot in a couple years.
But this round does look interesting.

There's a time and place for ammo munchers. I have some scattered about for defensive use, but they never get shot recreationally. Once upon a time I tore people up at 3-guns... but the last one of those I attended was back in 2013.

I’m in the same boat.
I have one incomplete one and I’ll be buying a cheap carbine to have one. But I’ve never been a big ar guy.

yeah... you weren't real fun to shoot against. Still fun, because, well... shooting guns.. but you certainly cleaned up courses.

I love my bolt guns, but there's something about being able to put together an AR yourself like Legos. I'm interested in this new cartridge because I can have a precision geared round, shooting heavier bullets, in a carbine package. Bullets are cheaper than 30 cal, and you burn less powder. So it makes it attractive from that end too.

How does it compare to the 22 Norma?
