Asking for opinions...

  • I have about $185 in points from my CC which I'd like to use, or continue to save if I can't find anything I really need. So I am asking for opinions on a couple of things I am thinking of getting anyway.

I was thinking of getting the new Hornady Iron press, I need weather meter, something like a Kestrel, otherwise, I would also like to buy the press mounted priming system from Greg, and finally, I also need to continue stocking up on supplies for reloading: powder, primers, and bullets.

My main focus right now is getting to the GunHive training in May, but beyond that, I'd like to get a single stage press for my precision reloads (I have a Lee turret press now). The weather meter will be most useful when I am elk hunting in the mountains. The priming system goes back to precision reloads. And the reloading components...well, that's obvious.

So what do you guys think, where would my funds be better spent?

  • BTW, I know that I'll still have to spend a bit of $$ on whatever I get, but that's ok, I see it as a good discount off regular price.

  • In my opinion...I would buy a good single stage press first...but I would get the forster coax not the new hornady.

Second choice would be the CPS lite.

A weather meter is nice...but in my opinion $185 isn't going to get you what you need. I absolutely love the AB built into the kestrel and I think it is worth the extra money.

If you don't have components on hand for May then that would obviously come first.

  • Do not buy a hornady press. Get a Forster Co-Ax if you're wanting a good single stage.

You could get a kestrel obviously, and you need to have one that can do DA, even if you won't use that feature to begin with.

A CPS_Lite will help anyone prime easier. ... a CPS is significantly better.

Without the ability to get your environmentals, you won't be able to precisely compute a firing solution for a shot at distance. Pretty important right there.

The reason I don't see the weather meter as urgent right now is because for the match I shoot locally, most guys I shoot with already have the Kestrels and share the DA to everyone on the squad.

I was considering the Co-Ax as well, but that new Hornady looks good and the reviews so far look good. But I would prefer the Co-Ax, I can definitely save up a little more and get that one instead.

  • If you get the coax...then keep your lee so you have something to mount the CPS lite to. Either that or get the bench mounted CPS. I have used both and they both work well...but the bench mounted model is worth the extra coin.

Yeah, the plan is to keep the Lee turret, 'cuz I'll be using that to reload for my 9mm.

I have plenty of components, what I don't have is time to work up a load. My previous load was 45.2gn H4350 for a 6.5CM, hot as hell. After that discussion I decided to start over and develop a load. So I am already buying boxed ammo for May.

  • Co Ax. There's a reason it's echoing.

Also why are you buying boxed ammo? Just work up your load now.

Does the CPS fit turret presses?

The lite version, yes it will fit most.

  • Good to know

What are you getting? Prime has worked well in my 260. I'll be bringing some of that and some reloads.

I just don't have the time. I want to follow Greg's method, and for that, I need several reloading sessions and several trips to the range. Some personal stuff I am dealing with has just killed my free time to be able to develop a load.

I am getting the Hornady Match ammo with 140gn ELD bullets. The old AMAX bullets worked well on my gun, I am hoping to have a little time to go out and zero it before I head out to the class, otherwise, I might leave really early in the morning so I can go take care of that when I am there on Fri.
