Chargemaster Woes....Problem Solved

  • So a few months ago I bought a Chargemaster from Orkan and it started out working well. I then had a couple of hiccups with it, where the motor would stop turning, but fiddling with it, got it working again. Then last week I couldn't get the motor to work at all. Not on dispense, trickle, anything. Figured the motor took a dump on me since the scale was still working.

I ordered a new dispenser side from Amazon. I got it plugged it in and had the same issues. "Well shit" I thought. I gave Orkan a call to ask him if he knew of any magic tricks, because he usally does. His suggestion was to call RCBS.

After a 30 minute hold time I finally got helped by Alicia. She said to try cleaning out the female side of the pins with light compressed air, rubbing alcohol, on both sides of the pins, and to go ahead and put some electrical grease on the pins. She said if that didn't work, I could send back the new dispenser and old scale together under warranty.

Well I'm happy to report that the cleaning and grease did the trick. I haven't done a full loading session, but I've tested the Chargemaster 3 times in the last 16 hours and it has worked every time. Looks like I'll be sending back the new dispenser to Amazon, and I think I'm going to grab a new Harris bi-pod instead. Thought I'd share just so someone else doesn't go through the same hassle I did.

  • Man, I really thought I was doing someone a favor by selling my newest chargemaster and keeping my old one. :|

  • @orkan You did. Like I told you yesterday, I don't expect anything from you. Just seemed like it needed to be cleaned since I got it on my bench lol.

  • I realize that... it just really bothers me when people get things from me and they have issues. If this thing behaved like this when it was here, I'd have tossed it in the trash and not thought a second about it.

  • I noticed I had issues when I moved mine to rebuild my bench.
I don't imagine you move yours often, but maybe something got knocked loose on it's travels from Gregs bench to yours.

    Glad you resolved it.

Don't buy a Harris, unless you need it specifically for some reason. Save up and buy an atlas; there's really no comparison between them.

I like Harris bi-pods, lol. I just put Atlas feet on them.

  • @orkan Well don't let bother you. Its all good now. I'm still very happy with my purchase.

When the thought of having to hand toss 200 rounds of .223 came up, I went and bought a Lee rifle charging die for my progressive.
