Athlon optics - You guys want some?
-
I'm going to hop on board with Athlon optics. There just always seems to be a need for some mid to low end scopes. It isn't like we can all afford to stick $4k optics on every rifle we own.
Any of you in the market right now? I'm going to order at least one of each of the desirable models to eval. When I'm done I'll pass some of them along. If any of you would be buying, what models would you be interested in?

It is funny you asked about Athlon Scopes, the Argos BTR that I have been using has really impressed me with the quality for the price.
I do want to step up and HD glass would be nice so with that being said, I think the ARES BTR 4.5-27X50 may be my next scope as it has some really nice features (HD glass and zero stop) for a MSRP of less than $1000.

I'm not in the market now, but am excited to see your eval.
They have some nice feature sets but so far I've seen very few negative things and that's a bit of a red flag for me.
-
I was entirely unfamiliar with the brand until it got mentioned here.
I'll parrot @mamalukino. That 4.5-27 has potential as a long range hunting scope I wouldn't be heartbroken about if I break it.
I look forward to your review

@ragnarnar
One of the reasons I purchased the scope was the Vortex type warranty.

I am not in the market right now, but my dad's rifle will need a new scope sooner than later and I was considering that brand so your review will help in the decision.Although it's a shame you can not export yet.

hmm... I think I know of a home for one or two.
-
I've been thinking about the Ares Btr to be honest but I'm still in the air between that or the gen2 pst
-
Well some showed up. All ffp/mil/mil. The "exciting" ones that everyone is waiting for didn't show up, as those aren't due out for a few weeks yet.
-
Gonna throw em on the 22 and test tracking first?
-
They'll all be getting shot on various things.
-
Looking forward to checking them out when I'm there for your class!

Which ones have you ordered?

Looking forward to the Ares test.
That could be right at home on my HBAR for a 600 yard match.
-
Hopefully you have a few when there for class to take a look through.

Well, I've had an opportunity to play with all the scopes I ordered.
The most recent arrivals are the ares BTR 4.5-27 and 2.5-15. I never ordered a cronus as I had already handled one of those.
At this point I can safely say that I believe athlon optics have been over-hyped. While the optical clarity beats most scopes in the price range, and the mechanical adjustments seem to be on in terms of tracking, its glaringly apparent to me that the reviewers singing praises of these scopes simply do not have much experience with truly high end optics.
They are some great low end options without a doubt, but they will not be dethroning the likes of vortex or bushnell mid-range scopes with this years product offering. The lower on the athlon totem pole you go, the higher your value per dollar percentage gets.

What do you think of the Ares 4.5-27's glass for its price?
Anything comparable, like the Burris 5-25 or Vortex PST?
-
The glass is good. It washes out colors a bit and reminds me of the vortex 4.5-27. Definitely good glass for the sub-$1000 price point. I'd like it more if it carried an $800 retail instead of the $1000 retail. ... but that's semantics.

That's the one I have been waiting to see reviews.
I will probably be getting one in the near future.

I love honesty. Thank you Greg!

I'll be in the market for something for the Tikka .22LR ... since the Tikka will only have one purpose ... the scope will probably be dedicated to the Tikka ...
But not sure when it will arrive ... I guess the T1x aren't released yet ... so hopefully it will arrive this year ... 2018 ... :)

@orkan I agree the lower on the totem pole you go the better bang for your buck. Certainly the lower are a perfect budget scope for rimfire rifles which is what I've been using them as but with the exception of having a Christmas tree style reticle the don't match up to my PST which is closest to them in price range, the XTR2, or Gen1 Razor in my safe.
